For the love of the planet - Sustainable development at WISNIOWSKI

40% of energy consumption in Europe is generated by the construction sector. The idea of sustainable development is aimed at implementing building investment projects with the environment in mind and using renewable energy sources and natural resources for the production of construction materials. How are the principles of sustainable development executed at WISNIOWSKI?

Proven and sustainable construction products

WISNIOWSKI products are the best choice for sustainable construction. The company has successfully completed the first stage of the process of confirming its efforts aimed at increasing the environmental friendliness of their residential and industrial fence systems, as well as sectional and industrial garage doors.

What does this mean in practice? Independent experts verified whether:

• electricity consumption,

• energy resource consumption,

• water consumption,

• emissions to air, water, and soil,

• the amount of waste for a period of 12 months,

at the consecutive stages of the so-called product life cycle at WISNIOWSKI does not reach considerable levels of raw material and energy consumption for one manufactured product. During this phase, WISNIOWSKI products underwent rigorous tests checking their impact on the environment throughout the entire period of use. An independent accredited body confirmed the reliability and integrity of the manufacturing processes executed in compliance with the idea of sustainable development.

Manufacturing process automation

The automation and optimization of manufacturing processes at WISNIOWSKI enables considerable energy savings and a decrease in raw material, natural resource, and non-renewable resource consumption, as well as a reduction of the amount of generated waste.

Lower energy consumption translates into smaller CO2 emissions. Production idle time on the new production lines was reduced to the minimum. Actuating systems not taking part in the manufacture of the current product batch are automatically disconnected from power supply.

Reduced energy consumption thanks to office space automation

An automated building is a sustainable, eco-friendly building. Consumption of energy in the office buildings includes interior heating and air conditioning and electric energy needed to power the infrastructure. The automation of systems responsible for these processes at WISNIOWSKI makes it possible to reduce energy and water consumption and CO2 emissions. At the same time, an automated building means comfort for its users, more than 2,200 employees of the company.

Thanks to the Building Management System, the new WISNIOWSKI office building was developed so as to manage the interior temperature in a smart way and make the lighting work only when necessary. Smart control of the heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and lighting systems enables considerable reduction of energy consumption.

An innovative, two-stage heat recovery system was installed in the building. Heat recovery is possible thanks to energy storage in the water circulation system. The heat recovery technology enables individual temperature control for each room and area, and the innovative air-conditioning system ensures thermal comfort for the users regardless of the season of the year. Out of concern for workplace hygiene, standard air exchange was provided. Mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation with heat recovery was used in the building. The energy efficiency of the ventilation equipment is 84%.

Water recovery and responsible waste management

Technological water recovery line in a closed circuit is a solution implemented by WISNIOWSKI with the aim of limiting the amount of water drawn from natural resources. Reusing the water already used in the powder-coating and galvanization processes makes it possible to save up to 10 000 m³ a year.

The strategy of operating in line with the idea of sustainable development at WISNIOWSKI is also visible in responsible waste management. Industrial waste, such as galvanizing dross, zinc ash, scrap metal or PVC, is reused or recycled.

Minimizing emissions

Bringing gas and dust emissions to a minimum was made possible thanks to the use of natural gas as the primary source of energy in WISNIOWSKI’s manufacturing processes. The production of garage doors, gates, windows, doors, and fences is conducted in a high technological regime. One of the effects of this environmental discipline is the extension of the time of use of galvanizing baths, which helped decrease the use of chemicals and natural resources.

Energy from our own sources

Thanks to investments in photovoltaics, WISNIOWSKI is starting production of its own energy. The installation of 8,000 m2 of solar panels with the power of over 1 MW will enable the company to produce renewable energy used in its manufacturing processes.

The system is being installed on WISNIOWSKI’s proprietary structure. The production of electricity from the solar panels will cover 1/6 of the plant’s daily demand.

Objectives related to environmental protection included in the WISNIOWSKI development strategy are effectively executed through the implementation of specific solutions. Safety is a mission that the Polish manufacturer of garage doors, gates, windows, doors, and fences has been pursuing for more than 33 years. And we mean safety understood at various levels, also in terms of the well-being of our planet.
